PORTLAND – Police in Portland said a teenager who reported an attempted kidnapping near Ventura Park last Thursday afternoon made up the story.

The 16-year-old victim told police that a man surprised her while she was walking home from David Douglas High School between 4 and 4:30 p.m., said Sgt. Pete Simpson with Portland police.

The victim told police she had seen the man driving the same van earlier while walking on Southeast 113th Avenue near Southeast Stark Street.

She told detectives Monday she was scared when a man in a van honked at her, but there was no attempt to contact her physically.

The girl could face charges for initiating a false report.
