VANCOUVER -- Heidi Stewart is looking forward to graduating from Evergreen High School in Vancouver.

The 18-year-old's future was very much in doubt on Feb. 12 when she suffered a sudden cardiac arrest at the school and was "dead" for eight minutes.

The Columbian reports she was saved by the school nurse and other staffers who used an automated external defibrillator to restart her heart. It took three shocks.

She was rushed to a hospital and later diagnosed with a rare heart condition.

The defibrillator machine that saved Stewart was donated to the high school by the Quinn Driscoll Foundation, named after a 13-year-old student at Vancouver's Wy'east Middle School who died in 2009 in gym class.
