PORTLAND -- A 20-foot tall gold statue known as "the Giant" was moved Saturday from its home in Northeast Portland.

He started out towering over muscle beach in Venice, Calif. in the 1960's at a gym owned by Bob Zuver. Then “the Giant” made his move to Portland decades later.

He was standing at Hollywood Fitness at Northeast 57th Avenue and Northeast Sandy Boulevard. The statue is moving to Pennsylvania to join other Zuver memorabilia including a giant dumbbell.

“He’s going to be restored. He’s going to be displayed outside and so people will really appreciate the history,” said gym owner George Comalli.

The gym said the workers and customers were so sad, they had a going-away party for the statue.
