PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A drug dealer who supplied the heroin that killed a 23-year-old Oregon man has been sentenced to more than 14 years in federal prison.

Jacob Tolman of Portland pleaded guilty last fall to conspiracy to distribute more than 100 grams of heroin. U.S. Attorney Amanda Marshall said after Wednesday's sentencing that she hopes the tough penalty dissuades dealers who prey on addicts.

The 34-year-old Tolman had prior drug convictions and was facing charges of unlawful delivery of oxycontin when he distributed the heroin that led to the November 2011 death of Zachary Holland.

Holland was among the 143 people who died of heroin overdoses in Oregon that year.
