FOREST GROVE -- An off-duty Hillsboro policeman arrested after a gunfight with police first threatened to kill them, then fired rounds through a wall to where he thought officers might be crouching, according to a court document.

Timothy Cannon has been charged with attempted murder following a domestic violence call to his Forest Grove home. Cannon exchanged gunfire with 10 officers.

A probable cause statement prepared by Officer Michael Purdy of the Beaverton police department said Cannon's wife Lisa Cannon called 9-1-1 about 8:30 p.m. on January 20. She said she had barricaded herself  in an upstairs bathroom after her husband had threatened to harm her.

Officers entered the home and tried to get Cannon, 46, to surrender. He said "you guys are going to have to come up here and kill me," Purdy wrote.

Told that his plan was not an option, Cannon then said "I am going to have to come down there and kill you then."

Cannon began firing rounds through walls, trying to "index" where he thought the officers were stationed, Purdy wrote.

Washington County sheriff's deputy Robert Richards told Purdy he saw bullets go through sheetrock, through a door and into the floor about a yard in front of officers.

The probable cause document does not provide any other details of the shooting. Lisa Cannon was not hurt. An additional search warrant affidavit provided a more clear picture.

Cannon and another officer had minor injuries. Purdy tried to interview Cannon at the hospital but he declined and said he would be hiring a lawyer.

Neighbors told KGW they heard as many as 20 gunshots.
