PORTLAND – Several fire units raced to the downtown Portland Marriott after reports that a fire started in the hotel’s furnace Friday afternoon, dispatchers said.

No one was evacuated from the hotel, located at 1401 SW Naito Parkway, but firefighters found some embers in the duct work.

Some smoke leaked into the hotel lobby from the level just below the main floor. Authorities opened walls but did not find any areas that may have caught on fire.

Crews were able to extinguish the embers before the fire could spread, a fire spokesperson said.

No one was hurt.
