Man charged in woman's Christmas Day death

PORTLAND -- A Portland man has been arrested and charged in the Christmas Day murder of Jaime Lyn Larson.

Michael James Kirkland, 37, was arrested in his home at 1212 Southwest Clay Street by the U.S. Marshals Oregon Fugitive Task Force. Larson, 33, was found dead in her SW Park Avenue apartment Christmas night.

Kirkland was accused of three counts of aggravated murder at his arraignment Friday afternoon. Prosecutors also said he raped the victim before killing her, according to court documents.

He was being held without bail in the Multnomah County jail.

Portland Police homicide detectives and the Forensic Evidence Division worked to gather evidence from the crime scene and ultimately some of this evidence led to Kirkland. Investigators did not say if the two had known each other.
