SISTERS, Ore. -- A Portland man was arrested for drunken driving near Hoodoo Mountain Resort after one of his children called 911 from the backseat, police said.
Michael Edward Stout, 47, was arrested around 7 p.m. on New Year's Day for reckless driving, reckless endangerment and DUII, according to Oregon State Police Lt. Gregg Hastings.
Stout's children were in the backseat of his Jeep and called 911 to report that he was driving while intoxicated near Sisters, police said.
One of the children then jumped out of the slowly-moving Jeep as it pulled into a viewpoint near Hoodoo. The girl ran to a stopped car with two people inside and asked them for help, Hastings said. They confronted Stout and held his keys until police arrived, Hastings said.
Stout failed field sobriety tests and his blood alcohol content was measured at .20 percent. A trooper took the children to meet their mother in Salem.
He was scheduled to appear in court on February 6.
