BEAVERTON – A homeowner in Beaverton came home to a burglary in progress Sunday afternoon, police said.

The homeowner called 911 around 3 p.m. after he came home and found his rear glass sliding door shattered and items moved around inside his house, said Sgt. Jim Shumway with Beaverton Police.

Responding officers saw  32-year-old Benjamin Hicks, who was acting suspicious, walking a few blocks from the location of the burglary near a Bi-Mart on Southwest Beaverton Hillsdale Highway and Southwest Western Avenue, Shumway said.

Hicks was carrying a full duffel bag and police said he was trying to avoid them. Officers also noted that he was under dressed for rainy weather.

When police spoke with Hicks, he dropped the bag and took off running. Officers gave chase and caught him quickly.

Inside the duffel bag were items stolen from the burglary.

Hicks was booked in the Washington County Jail on burglary charges.
