BEAVERTON, Ore. -- The latest storm is a timely reminder of why it’s important to prepare your car for winter weather.

The manager at Baxter's Auto Supply in Beaverton said this is one of the busiest seasons of the year. Drivers want to be sure to keep their vehicles running properly through the cold and wet months.

The one must-have experts say, is a standard emergency roadside kit. It should include waterproof matches, candles, a first aid kit, jumper cables, chains, an ice-scraper, gloves, hats, a blanket, fresh wiper blades and a supply of flares.

“There has been a crazy amount of wiper blades being sold. You want a good wiper blade in this weather,” said Brittney Allen with Baxter Auto Parts.

She also recommended checking tire pressure and treads. In addition, it’s important to have your battery checked along with belts, hoses, lights and coolants.

And just in case you get stuck somewhere, experts say it's always a good idea to keep a supply of water and some protein bars in your car as well.
