BEND – Three people were taken to the hospital after a serious-injury crash where a SUV rolled on Highway 97 between Bend and Redmond Friday night.

At around 11 p.m., 46-year-old Eric Schneider of Bend was rear-ended in his Toyota 4runner by 23-year-old Pedro Cariero of Klamath Falls in his 2009 Pontiac in southbound lanes of the highway, said Lt. Gregg Hasting with Oregon State Police.

Schneider’s SUV traveled off the highway and rolled, coming to rest on its side, Hastings said.

The Pontiac came to rest in the center turn lane on the Highway.

Cariero was taken in an emergency helicopter to St. Charles Medical Center with serious injuries. Schneider refused to be taken to the hospital, but two passengers in his SUV were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators were working to determine the cause of the accident and have not released the names of the passengers.
