VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) -- A two-alarm fire early Monday destroyed the milking shed of Stauffer's Dairy outside Washougal.
East County Fire & Rescue crews prevented flames from spreading to the farm house and outbuildings. There were no hydrants near Stauffer's Dairy. Water had to be trucked in for firefighters.
The dairy was started in 1937 and had about 140 cows when the fire broke out. All but two of the cows were rescued.
"Hopefully they'll be able to come back from this," friend Gary Bolt said. "It'll be a long drawn-out thing. They've been here a long time, hopefully they'll be able to recoup."
Neighbors have been Coming by with trailers to move the cows.
