FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Hillsboro's Cassie Weil nearly earned a trip to London Wednesday with a strong start at the U.S Olympic Diving trials.

She finished 24th.  Only the top 10 go on to the Olympics.

During Wednesday's dives, Weil, 18, climbed to 10th place after four of five rounds of diving in the preliminary. Then, a failed entry on her final dive caused her to plummet down the leaderboard.

Weil calls Hillsboro home and plans to attend college at LSU.

She was the first woman in the history of Oregon to make the Olympic Trials in diving.
