PORTLAND – A talkative burglar helped police capture a child porn suspect in Portland, according to detectives.
Back in 2010, Brian Branigan reported that someone had broken into his home. Police caught a burglary suspect nearby with a stolen laptop. That’s when the investigation got a bit more complicated.
Detectives turned on the laptop, in an effort to try and figure out who it belonged to. The screensaver that popped up contained child porn, according to detective Mike Perry with the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.
They questioned the burglary suspect and he said the laptop was stolen from Branigan’s home. Next, Perry said detectives showed the laptop to Branigan and asked if it was his. He said yes.
Perry said the detectives also asked Branigan about the child porn on the computer he admitted that was his, too.
The case was put before a grand jury who recently indicted Branigan. He was arrested Tuesday afternoon and now faces 20 charges of child sex abuse, all felonies.
