LYONS, Ore. – A dog was rescued after it was swimming in the Little North Santiam River in Lyons, Ore. and became trapped in a fish ladder.
Jezebel, a pug mix, was swimming in the river when she was caught in the current and swept into a covered fish ladder, said Barbara Baugnon, a spokeswoman for the Oregon Humane Society.
Jezebel was going through the churning water and openings meant to allow fish to pass through a dam, Baugnon said. She finally managed to hang onto the ladder’s rungs and cry for her family.
A member of the OHS rescue team entered the fish ladder, secured by a safety harness, and caught Jezebel, who was then taken to safety. OHS was assisted by the Elkhorn Fire Department.
“Jezebel is one lucky pug mix,” said Rene Pizzo with the OHS rescue team.
Jezebel’s owner, Shardell Bodda, said the she was doing well but was very tired from her ordeal.
