BEAVERTON, Ore. -- A Hillsboro woman led police on a wild chase the wrong way on Highway 26 through Beaverton early Wednesday morning that eventually landed her in jail.
Heather Cavanaugh, 37, reportedly told deputies she was trying to head home to Hillsboro. But she was driving drunk, according to Sgt. Hickey with Oregon State Police. And when she entered Hwy 26 at 185th Avenue, she was heading eastbound in the westbound lanes the wrong way.
Hickey said authorities received a number of 9-1-1 calls about the wrong-way vehicle. Officers found her and chased her until she eventually crashed right into a patrol car. The deputy was laying out spike strips on the roadway when she hit his vehicle, Hickey said.
Both the patrol car and the woman’s vehicle were damaged in the crash but no one was seriously injured.
Cavanaugh was arrested and booked on DUII, reckless driving and criminal mischief charges in the Washington County Jail.
