CENTRALIA, Wash. (AP) -- Centralia police Detective Rick Hughes came up with the idea of expanding the Centralia Police Officers Association's 'Shop With A Cop' holiday program to "A Night Out With Santa" in order to help more kids. To raise more money, officers raffled off a pickup truck -- a 2004 Chevy Silverado with new tires, stereo and other amenities.

Hughes says they sold more than 2,000 tickets at $10 each -- plenty to provide for the 330 children already signed up to participate. In prior years, the 'Shop With A Cop' program was only able to help about 30 kids.

But KITI reports the big surprise was still to come. When police notified Bruce Schneider of Portland, Ore., that he'd won the truck, Schneider decided to give it back to help secure the event's funding for next year.
