MOLALLA -- A man who yelled at a speeding motorist to slow down was beaten by the driver after he skidded to a stop.
Michael C. Allen, 37, was mending fences and tending to horses early Friday afternoon in rural Molalla.
He noticed a car approaching him on South Vaughn Road at 80 to 90 mph and he yelled at the driver to slow down, according to Clackamas County sheriff's office spokesman Det. Jim Strovink.
Allen told police the motorist skidded some distance and fishtailed to a stop. The driver then backed up and confronted Allen, who was standing next to a ditch along the road.
The driver asked Allen if he was armed. Allen said no and the man started hitting him. Allen fell into the ditch, badly hurting his knee.
The suspect then jumped on top of Allen and began choking him. Allen told police that he was defenseless and tapped the attacker on the shoulder as a sign that he was about to pass out.
A motorcyclist came by and the attack stopped. Allen said the suspect apologized, mentioned something about learning his girlfriend has recently cheated on him, and drove off.
A family member took Allen to Willamette Falls hospital where he was treated for a knee injury, cuts to his head and bleeding from his ear.
Allen and a witness provided deputies with a description of the car.
Police arrested Brian S. Maloy, 35, of 123 Berkely Ave., Molalla at his home Saturday morning.
He was accused of three counts of fourth-degree assault and criminal strangulation.
