SISTERS, Ore. -- A Portland man was arrested for drunken driving near Hoodoo Mountain Resort after one of his children called 911 from the backseat, according to an Albany newspaper.

Michael Edward Stout, 47, was arrested around 7 p.m. on New Year's Day for reckless driving, reckless endangerment and open container, according to Deschutes County Jail records. He was released within a few hours.

The Albany Democrat-Herald reported that Stout's children were in the backseat of his Jeep and called 911 to report that he was driving while intoxicated near Sisters.

One of the children then jumped out of the vehicle at a viewpoint near Hoodoo and ran toward traffic to flag a passing driver, who confronted Stout and held his keys until police arrived, the newspaper reported.

According to the report, Stout failed field sobriety tests and his blood alcohol content was measured at .20 percent. A trooper took the children to meet their mother in Salem.

He was schedule to appear in court on February 6.
