PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Mayor Sam Adams told KGW he will decide in the next few weeks whether an officer involved in a deadly shooting will keep his job.
Officer Ron Frashour shot unarmed Aaron Campbell, 25, in the back during a police standoff in January.
A review board cleared Officer Frashour of any criminal wrong-doing in the shooting. The shooting and investigation results led to public outcry and visits to Portland by prominent civil rights leaders, including the Rev. Jesse Jackson.
Frashour is now on paid leave, but the Willamette Week reports that the Use of Force Board has recommended that the officer be fired for his role in the incident.
In a Tuesday interview, Mayor Adams told KGW the final decision was up to him.
"It's a lot of information and the public can expect a swift but thorough review on my part and the chief has already reviewed the matter as well."
