PORTLAND -- A missing 4-year-old girl was found within a mile of her home in Southwest Oregon after spending a cold night alone in the woods.
Searchers said Zoey Dorsey was crying and suffering from hypothermia, just 200 yards from her home, in a steep, rugged, forested area east of Brookings. As of 10 a.m., she was listed in fair condition at Oregon Health and Science University.
Searchers scanned the steep, forested area on ATVs, on foot, with tracking dogs, and from a helicopter before someone finally spotted the scared little girl.
The Curry County Sheriff's Office said she was reported missing Wednesday afternoon from her home at about 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. Her family lives on Mountain Drive, a long, steep winding mountain road that begins about two miles up the north bank of the Chetco River.
The girl was only wearing a T-shirt, pants and tennis shoes.
Authorities said a state animal trapper was also contacted due to a recent sighting of a large mountain lion in the area.
A National Guard helicopter crew assisted in the search, using Infrared radar specially designed to seek heat put out by the human body.
