QUANTICO, Va. -- The FBI approached the producers of "Portlandia" in April to ask for a clip from their IFC series, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

But the show wasn't being investigated; the FBI planned to use the "Sanitation Twins" sketch for training purposes in its advanced-intelligence courses, the website reported.

The FBI request did not explain what a sketch about recycling culture could teach students about espionage and terrorism.

Show co-star Carrie Brownstein told the Reporter the bureau might just want to make fun of the show in its classes. Whatever the exact purpose, she said the request was "surreal."
