Earthquake off the Oregon Coast

PORTLAND, Ore. - A 5.3 magnitude earthquake occurred off the Oregon coast Wednesday morning.

Federal authorities said the quake did not generate a tsunami.

People in Eugene, the closest community to the quake, did not feel it, and there were no reports of any damage.

The USGS reports the quake occurred at 4:38 a.m., 249 miles southwest of Portland or 124 miles west of Barview.
