PORTLAND – Three people were assaulted in a home invasion and robbery in Southeast Portland early Friday morning and police were searching for one suspect who they think was on the run.
Police said they made a number of arrests before 6a.m.
The home invasion occurred just after 4 a.m., at a home in the 5700 block of S.E. 72nd Avenue, according to investigators. “Officers arrived and discovered that three occupants of the house had been assaulted,” said Sgt. Greg Stewart with the Portland Police Bureau. Two of the victims were hospitalized with minor injuries.
After the assaults, police believe at least one of the suspects fled the scene in a car and officers followed. That driver eventually crashed near the intersection of SE 50th and Hawthorne and fled, setting off a manhunt, police said.
As of 6:30 a.m., several police patrols were cruising the Hawthorne area and many roads were blocked off. But as of 8 a.m., the area had been re-opened.
