PORTLAND – The Belmont Goats, the goats living in a grassy area along Southeast Belmont Street, need help for their upcoming move to Lents.

An Indiegogo campaign has been launched to help the goats settle into their new home in Southeast Portland.

The crowdfunding campaign is asking for $7,500 to help fund clean-up, insurance, and construction of a new pen.

Depending on their level of support, funders will get perks like an in-home goat visit, the chance to walk a goat, or a Belmont Goats bumper sticker.

Organizers say the goats will enhance the Lents neighborhood’s community-driven project initiative.

“The goats do have this inherent therapeutic effect,” said Jay Jiminez, who helps care for the goats. “You’re just hanging out with these animals with so much character and they're so friendly and so sociable.”

The campaign has raised just under half of its goal, with 59 days to go.
