PORTLAND -- One person was killed and a second person injured in a head-on crash on Cornelius Pass Road Tuesday afternoon, police said.
A man who had been driving one of the vehicles died at the scene and a woman in the second vehicle was also injured, according to Lt. Steve Alexander of the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.
The injured woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment but Alexander said he didn't know how seriously she was hurt.
Investigators said they think alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. Names have not yet been released.
Cornelius Pass Road was closed at Northwest Kaiser Road during the investigation and drivers were warned to avoid the area if possible. Police were unsure when they would be able to reopen the roadway. The crash was reported just after 3 p.m.
Drivers were getting detoured onto alternate routes including as NW Germantown Road, NW Cornell Road or Highway 26. Police said truck drivers transporting hazardous cargo should use Highway 26 to Highway 217 to Interstate 5 north.
