PORTLAND -- A TriMet driver was stabbed Wednesday afternoon and the suspect is on the loose, police said.
Officers were called just before 3 p.m, to the report that a bus driver was stabbed near Southeast 94th Avenue and Southeast Foster Road, said Sgt. Pete Simpson of the Portland Police Bureau.
Officers and medical personnel arrived shortly afterward and the victim was taken to Oregon Health & Science University. The driver's condition was not known.
Witnesses said the suspect fled the area westbound on Foster Road. He was described as a white man in his mid-30s, with brown hair and tattoos on his neck. He was wearing black pants and a green T-shirt, Simpson said.
Transit police were assisting PPB with the investigation, said TriMet spokeswoman Roberta Altstadt.
"Our thoughts and concern are with the operator," she added.
