PORTLAND – The first of three weekend closures on Interstate 84 will begin Friday as the Oregon Department of Transportation repaves 5.5 miles of highway.
The closures will take place on I-84 between Interstate 5 and Interstate 205. The stretch of highway was last paved in 2002 and has since become rutted and worn.
All eastbound lanes will be closed Friday, July 12 at 10 p.m. and reopen Monday, July 15 at 5 a.m. Westbound lanes will be closed from July 19 - 22 and August 3 – 5.
One lane may be closed during up to four weekday nights during the project period. The Northeast Halsey Street overpass at Northeast 82nd Avenue will also be closed for two or three nights in July.
In addition to paving the highway, the project will pave I-84 ramps, install new signs and restripe lanes. The work may be rescheduled if it rains.
