PORTLAND -- An overwhelmed breeder from the Dalles area turned over 25 Shih Tzu dogs to the Oregon Humane Society in Portland Tuesday afternoon, a spokeswoman said.
The dogs will receive medical attention, get a bath and a haircut. They will then be offered for adoption as soon as possible, said OHS spokeswoman Barbara Baugnon.
"The breeder was receptive to an offer by OHS to help to find permanent, adopted homes for the animals," Baugnon said. "OHS is working with the Sherman County Sheriff's Office and Home at Last, an animal shelter in the Dalles, to help with the transfer of pets."
OHS workers said the breeder had 40 dogs, plus more in her home.
The dogs are very social and mostly males, ranging from one to eight years old.
