PORTLAND – A man was taken into custody after he drove his SUV into the Columbia River Friday morning.
Police responded to a report around 2 a.m. on Friday of an SUV submerged in the Columbia River near Blue Frog Landing.
John Kempa, a witness, said the driver was hiding in the water under a nearby houseboat.
“I think there’s more to the story than just a guy scared to come out from underneath [the houseboat],” Kempa said.
According to Captain Mary Lindstrand of the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the SUV was pulled from the water, as was another man who was also in the water nearby. Both men were taken to the hospital.
Police said they were waiting for more information before charging or citing the driver of the SUV.
