LINCOLN CITY, Ore. -- A suspect was arrested Monday for the hit-and-run crash that killed a man dribbling a soccer ball along U.S. Highway 101, police said.
Richard Swanson, 42, was on the first leg of a journey from Seattle to Brazil to raise awareness for the One World Futbol charity when he was struck by a vehicle and killed on May 14. The driver left the scene.
Lincoln City police announced Monday they had arrested 52-year-old Scott Von Hiatt of Neskowin, Ore. in connection with Swanson's death.
Hiatt was charged with criminally negligent homicide and held in the Lincoln County Jail on $50,000 bail. He was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
