GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. - Rescue crews helped a climber who broke his leg after falling between 100 and 200 feet on a steep section of Mt. Hood Wednesday morning.

Rescuers headed up from Timberline Lodge to the Hogsback area of the mountain to help 52-year-old Robert Finke of Gladstone.

Other climbers were helping Finke until he could be safely taken down the mountain.

He was part of a climbing party of three. A physician’s assistant with Portland Mountain Rescue reached Finke and crews were able to stabilize his injuries.

Right now the mountain is frozen and hard, but deputies said they expected more ice and rock fall later in the week as temperatures warm up.
