OREGON CITY, Ore. -- An Oregon City High School teacher is on paid leave after allegations he received nude photos from a student at the school.
The school district received complaints from several people that a 16-year-old female student sent lewd photos to a male teacher through a smartphone app called Snapchat, according to Oregon City police Lt. Jim Band.
It was not clear whether the teacher sent pictures back to the student. Police have opened an official investigation and said the student was cooperating.
“When they are in school, you are trusting that the teachers and everybody that is responsible for them at the time is going to have their best interests in mind,” Band said. “And clearly if these are true, that would be something that a lot of people would be worried about, having a teacher around like that.”
The school district did not comment on specifics of the investigation, but did release the following statement:
A complaint regarding a teacher was received at Oregon City High School and the district office. The issue was referred to Oregon City police for further investigation. The teacher was placed on leave pending the outcome of that investigation.
Band said the school district received the complaints Monday and did not report them to the police department Wednesday. The district would not comment on the delay.
