PORTLAND - Portland's Steel Bridge was closed for a police explosive squad to investigate a suspicious tool box Tuesday evening.

Witnesses told police someone ran away after leaving a toolbox nearby.

But police later clarified that the box fell out of a maintenance truck on the road A cyclist then stopped, picked up the tool box and put it on the bridge railing, then ran back to his bike and rode away.

Dispatchers said the bridge was being reopened just after 6 p.m.

MAX trains were rerouted and commuters advised to seek other routes.
