PORTLAND -- A woman was attacked in North Portland last Tuesday and police have released a sketch in the hope of finding the suspect.

The woman was walking just after midnight on North Larabee Street, near North Interstate Avenue, when a man approached and asked for money and food, said Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson.

The man then pushed the woman to the ground, threatened to rape her and punched her in the face, Simpson said. He reportedly acted as if he had a gun in his pocket, but the victim was able to defend herself and the suspect ran away.

He was described as about 5-foot-5, in his 30s and approximately 170 to 180 pounds. He had short brown hair and brown eyes, and he was wearing a white sweatshirt and black pants. The suspect is balding or has a shaved head in the back, with a unique quarter-inch strap of hair behind his ears pulled into a braid, Simpson said.

Anyone with information was asked to call detective Jason Christensen at (503) 823-0894.
