CORBETT, Ore. – Crews confirmed a body was inside a wrecked vehicle at the bottom of a ravine near Crown Point.
At around 5 p.m. Saturday, a hiker reported coming across a wrecked vehicle at the bottom of an embankment off the East Historic Columbia River Highway.
Responding crews could see the vehicle but had trouble getting to it because of the difficult terrain and time of day, said Lt. Steve Alexander with the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.
At 10 a.m. Sunday, crews from multiple agencies finally reached the bottom of the ravine and confirmed a body was inside, Alexander said.
The highway was closed between Latourell Falls and Crown Point while authorities investigated.
Once the vehicle is recovered, the body will be turned over to the Medical Examiner.
