Libya said it has made arrests and opened a probe into the attack, amid speculation that Al-Qaeda rather than a frenzied mob was to blame. PORTLAND -- A former Navy SEAL who listed Portland as his residence was among those killed in attacks on the U.S. embassy in Libya, but the Department of Defense is not releasing specific details of his post.

Tyrone Woods was a 20-year-military veteran working a private security detail for the U.S. Department of State when the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi was attacked Tuesday night. Three others were killed.

NBC News reported that few additional details were available about Woods. While his residence was listed as Portland, KNSD of San Diego reported he lived in Imperial Beach, Calif., where he settled after leaving the Navy and for a time owned a pub called the Salty Frog.

Woods was a father of two and was married to a dentist in California, but her name was not available, according to the NBC report. His death was confirmed by his ex-wife in San Diego, who was notified by the U.S. government.

The State Department declined to discuss Woods or his mission.
