REEDSPORT, Ore. -- Police surrounded a Reedsport motel room Wednesday and said a man wanted for a kidnapping fired a shot at them from inside.
The area remains secured and traffic on Highway 101 was closed in both directions at Reedsport indefinitely, according to Lt. Gregg Hastings of the Oregon State Police. An OSP SWAT team was called in to help.
Officers are continuing the attempt to keep contact with the man.
Police said the man had forced his estranged girlfriend into a car at Coos Bay. The Coos Bay World reports police believe the man is alone, and they don't know the woman's whereabouts.
A nearby school went into lockdown. Classes were conducted as usual, but students were not allowed to leave the building.
