Two children were struck by a car in Southeast Portland late Thursday and one was seriously injured.
The incident took place at Southeast 72nd Ave. and Flavel. According to police, a woman driving a car westbound on Flavel passed two cars on the right shoulder, went up onto the curb and hit a 5-year-old boy and a 18-month-old girl who were waiting to cross the street with their mother.
The 18-month-old was in a stroller when she was hit.
The 5-year-old boy has been transported to a Portland hospital with traumatic injuries. The 18-month-old girl suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene by medical personnel.
The driver remained at the scene. Traffic Division officers were investigating the cause of the crash and whether or not alcohol or drugs are a factor. Southeast Flavel Street was closed to all traffic from 71st to 72nd Streets during the investigation.
