CANBY, Ore. -- A two-vehicle crash sent 13 people to the hospital, many of them teenagers and children.
Canby Fire crews said that at around 8 p.m. Friday, a van and a Range Rover were traveling at high speeds toward the intersection of S. Central Point Rd. & S. New Era Rd. when one of the vehicles drove through the stop sign, causing the crash.
In all, 13 people were injured in the collision and taken to the hospital. Three people were transported in serious condition, one of them by air ambulance. They are all expected to survive. The 11 other people suffered moderate or minor injuries. Of all those injured, two are adults, and the rest are teenagers or children.
Five teens were in the Range Rover and two adults and six children were in the white van.
Extra emergency crews were brought in to handle the number of people injured.
Fire department spokesman Troy Buzalsky calls the intersection a "major rural thoroughfare," and he says it's common to see crashes there.
"If you run the stop sign, you're just asking for a collision," Buzalsky said.
Buzalsky said one of the vehicles was headed to the Clackamas Co. Fair and Rodeo, and the other vehicle was headed from the fair.
