DES MOINES, Wash. – A 14-year-old girl was shot in the arm early Saturday morning as she was walking with friends on Pacific Highway South.
Police say at about 1:30 a.m., the girl, her 15-year-old female cousin and two boys, ages 16 and 18, had taken a metro bus to Des Moines from Tukwila, and walked form the bus stop by to a drug store along the highway.
After leaving the store the group crossed to the east side of the highway. They were walking southbound on the sidewalk when the shooting occurred in the S. 23000 block.
The suspect was driving northbound on the highway and stopped. The suspect yelled out a slang term interpreted by the victims as a robbery.
One of the male victims yelled "gun" when the suspect pointed a firearm towards them through the open passenger window. The group of teens began to run and the suspect fired once, striking the girl in the upper arm.
The suspect drove away, northbound on Pacific Highway South.
The girl was taken to the hospital with a non-life threatening injury.
The suspect's vehicle is described as a small import car, possibly a Honda or Toyota, dark color, described as "dark ash." The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his twenties with dark spiked hair, wearing a dark shirt.
