SEATTLE (AP) — The man who shot the son of Washington Lt. Gov. Brad Owen's has died.

Carlos Fernandez died Wednesday afternoon at Harborview Medical Center, hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg-Hanson said.

Fernandez was accused of shooting 37-year-old Mark Owen, who was discharged Tuesday. Owen was a partner with Fernandez in a paint and body shop for semi-trucks, KBP & Fabrications.

Kent police say 63-year-old Fernandez shot Owen during an argument then shot himself in the head. Brad Owen said his son has worked for Fernandez for about three years, recently becoming a business partner. But the lieutenant governor said the two had a rocky relationship.

In a statement Wednesday night, the lieutenant governor says Fernnadez was a "dear, close friend" and that he regrets "that that there is not more that I could have done to prevent these tragic circumstances."
