SPOKANE -- A car fire inside the parking garage at River Park Square Mall forced mall-goers to evacuate for 20 minutes Saturday.

Investigators are still trying to figure out why a car parked on the seventh story of the garage caught fire around 2:45 p.m.

Smoke spread throughout the garage, setting off some fire alarms inside the mall. The escalators also stopped working.

Mall employees used loud speakers to tell customers to exit and to stay out of the elevators. No one was trapped inside the elevators.

Spokane Police officers helped drivers exit the garage.

People were allowed back inside by 3:15 p.m.

No one was hurt. Firefighters said the fire was contained to the car.

The seventh floor of the parking garage remained closed Saturday afternoon.
