SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — In a story March 9, The Associated Press reported that the Western States Petroleum Association's oil company members are proposing to use a carbon tax on fuels instead of the state's cap and trade system. The story should have made clear that the group has not formally supported a carbon tax on fuels, but has said lawmakers proposing such a tax deserve credit for acknowledging that California's current plan to place fuels under cap and trade could raise the costs of gasoline and other fuels for consumers.
