NEW YORK (AP) — New York City police say a Florida girl tumbled out of a sixth-story window in Brooklyn and is in critical condition.
The 7-year-old fell Wednesday afternoon and was taken to Lutheran Hospital.
Toxicology tests showed traces of drugs in her system, and police said Friday that she may have been a victim of abuse. Detectives are investigating.
Police say she was visiting family in Brooklyn. They say that about an hour and a half before she fell, she ran away from the apartment she was in. They say someone had told her they were going to send her away.
A person spotted the girl and called police. They returned her to the home, where nothing appeared to be amiss.
After she fell, child welfare workers removed other children from the home.
