STONEHAM, Mass. (AP) — An Army veteran who served in Afghanistan has been killed in a double shooting in suburban Boston.
Joseph Puopolo (POP'-uh-loh) had been visiting a friend's home in Stoneham (STOHN'-um), where his family lives.
His father also is named Joseph Puopolo and says he was "a good kid" who happened to be at the wrong place Wednesday morning. He says he's been overwhelmed by an outpouring of sympathy from people who knew and loved his 27-year-old son.
Middlesex district attorney's office spokeswoman MaryBeth Long says another person was hospitalized after the shooting. She says the shooting "does not appear random." No further details have been released.
Puopolo says his son had recently taken an exam to qualify for the Massachusetts state police.
