Both directions of Division reopened after standoff

KREM 2 reports on a standoff in N. Spokane.

SPOKANE, Wash. -- N. Division was closed in both directions on Tuesday night near Francis and Lyons after a car chase.

Spokane police said the street should be reopened by 11:00 p.m..

Officers threw spike strips in the middle of the road during the chase. After the suspect hit the spike strips, the suspect was not able to drive and would not leave his vehicle.

SWAT arrived on scene once the suspect would not surrender. Authorities blocked in the suspect on Division and Lyons when the man refused to give himself up.

Many watched from nearby parking lots on lockdown. Police asked people to stay behind cover in case the standoff resulted in gunfire.

A K-9 unit was on scene. Officers yelled: "There's no reason to be doing this" and the suspect responded with obscenities.

Around 9:45 p.m., officers tackled the suspect and took the man into custody.
