Man arrested after he tries to run away from officers, ditch gun in downtown Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. -- A man was arrested after pulling out a gun in front of police officers during a gang fight early Sunday morning in downtown Portland.

Darius Pierre Tarver, 25, also tried to run from officers and discard the gun. He was captured and booked into the Multnomah County Jail and is facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded firearm and third-degree escape.

Tarver is scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday in Multnomah County Court.

Officers from the Central Precinct Entertainment Detail and Gang Enforcement Team were patrolling downtown at about 2:15 a.m. Sunday when a fight broke about between 10-12 gang members.

Tarver pulled out a gun during the fight and then took off, running away from the officers. He got rid of the gun in a parking lot at Northwest 4th Avenue and Couch Street, and after a struggle with officers, he was arrested and the gun was seized.
