11-year-old girl hit by minivan, killed in Clark County

BATTLE GROUND, Wash. -- A 11-year-old girl was hit by a minivan and killed in Clark County Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews were called at 8:42 a.m. to the report that a vehicle had hit a pedestrian in the 28900 block of Northeast 82nd Avenue.

Firefighters and deputies at the scene learned that Dennis Gene Lemke, the 77-year-old driver of a minivan, was southbound on 82nd Avenue when he struck Elizabeth Smith, who was in the southbound travel lane, according to the Clark County Sheriff's Office.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said foggy conditions may have been a factor. Lemke is cooperating with officials, and no charges are anticipated at this time.
