TUALATIN, Ore. -- Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker visited Oregon on Friday, and led a celebration and educational event for National Manufacturing Day.
Secretary Pritzker got a tour at Lam research, which she later called one of Oregon's and the nation's most innovative companies. Lam makes sophisticated equipment that allows semiconductor companies to make advanced wafers, used to make chips that are in every smartphone in the world.
After her personal tour, the commerce secretary joined students to see some amazing projects put together by Lam engineers and other skilled workers. Robotics is a big part of what they do at Lam Research.
Secretary Pritzker said she hoped the impressive presentations inspire the kids to go for a job that supports modern manufacturing in America.
“We know that without your participation in the world of modern manufacturing we will have trouble remaining a world leader in innovation,” said Pritzker.
